A Tribute to Parker

It was a cold day in January of 2008 when I got the call that the SPCA in Clarion, PA was being closed.  The new CEO of PSCPA was revamping the system and closed a couple of the shelters.  What didn't get adopted or rescued was going to be euthanized.  The rescue agreed to take two of the labs.  We got Cleveland and Baretta, which we changed to Paige and Parker.  They arrived in January during the day while I was at work.  I had volunteers here to meet the transport person and get them into crates until I got home.  While I was gone, Parker broke out of his crate and cleared off all of my counters in the kitchen.  He then jumped the gate in kitchen and peed in the dining room and pooped in the living room.  He then made it to the second floor and ripped down my curtains in the bathroom and tore the wallpaper.  Needless to say, till I got home that day I was ready to send him back.  But we didn't.

Parker had been with me the whole time.  We had him posted and got only one hit on him the entire time in the rescue.  In November of 2008 I found a lump in Parker's neck.  I thought it was just a fatty tumor but had him checked.  The lump turned out to be lymphoma.  How devastating for us to find this out.  I guess it was meant for him to stay with me for his time on earth.  He was given 3-6 months.  We put him on meds to keep him comfortable and take the swelling out of the lymph nodes.  When I came home from work on December 19th, I found Parker to be flat out in his crate and his neck was swelled.  I rushed him to the vet!  We had to have Parker put to sleep that day.  Nikki Treaster and I were with him until the end.  Parker was loved by all who met him and he will be greatly missed.  I told him I forgave him for all he did to my house on that first day and I was glad we got to save him from that shelter.  We could only give him another year, but at least he was in a home and loved.

We will miss you Parker.  You will never be forgotten!  We love you!!
